Christina Lake Ecology Center
British Columbia, Canada
This ecology center and park is designed to provide sustainable community education programs and to introduce tourists to the community's many ecotourism options. The building is situated in a 45 acre park and will feature marsh habitat, aquaculture
ponds, biofiltration of stormwater, community horticulture gardens, performance amphitheatre, nature trails, and viewing areas of the lake. This building illustrates the use of sustainable harvested timber and straw bale construction. These materials are integrated into a regional design approach, which uses passive solar energy and water collection systems. The project also includes a biological wastewater treatment system for both the building and for the on- site wastewater drop-off station. Christina Lake is a tourist center that has a high demand for wastewater dumping from Recreational Vehicles.
